Vishnu asana or lying-down on sides got its name from the Hindu God Vishnu, who is normally seen lying down on his sides. This asana works on the pelvic floor muscles and also tones the muscles of the hamstrings. It helps improve the functioning of the prostate gland, gonads, penial body and pelvic muscles by increasing blood supply to these areas. This posture is beneficial in reducing fat in the butt area, waist, love handles and inner thighs. It also works very well for relieving backache and preventing the development of hernia.
Steps to do the asana
- Roll over and lie down on your right side.
- Now support your head with the right palm with elbow placed firm on the floor.
- Your left palm should be placed on the floor near the chest. Straighten your legs if possible.
- Lift your left leg up and slowly bring it down.
- Repeat this about 3 times.
- Now make circles rotating the left leg from the pelvic joint.
- Do it 5-6 times in one direction and then repeat in the opposite direction.
- Slowly, bring your leg down and rest.
- Now roll over to lie on your left side.
- Repeat the entire sequence.
- Lie down on your back and relax.
